On October 8, Brooklyn College students hosted the NYFWx BC fall 2024 fashion show, a bi-annual event that merges academia with the fashion industry. Part of the 2024–25 CUNY Career Success Fellowship and attended by more than 100 people, the initiative provided students with the opportunity to showcase their skills in marketing, selling, and event planning while engaging directly with industry professionals.
The day featured a panel discussion with leading fashion designers from New York Fashion Week, followed by a student-produced fashion show, highlighting emerging trends and designs. Interim Associate Dean of the Koppelman School of Business Myles Bassell participated in the panel alongside the fashion designers and, the event concluded with a networking session and free professional head shots for attendees.
“We’re incredibly proud of our students for the hard work they put into this event,” said Assistant Professor Cindy Ngoc Pham, a CUNY career success fellow and event organizer. “This was a fantastic opportunity for them to apply what they’ve learned in class to a major industry event, and the results were outstanding.”
The event was organized by a team led by Ezae Darby, a fashion designer who is majoring in business administration with a concentration in marketing and is taking Pham’s Principles of Selling class. The day was particularly special for Darby because his mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother attended his first successful event. His grandmother, a proud alumna of Brooklyn College, expressed her pride in seeing him continue the Brooklyn College family connection: “I had all great professors at Brooklyn College. That is why I am confident in the education here.”
